No matter what area rugs we used to decorate our living room, it is highly recommended to use rug pad. A rug pad is used to protect our rugs and also hardwood floor (if our house is using this kind of floor) from being damaged by scratching each other when people walk on it. Besides, it also prevent our rug to slip away and keep it in place. There are a lot more ways to decorate with it, I’m only giving a few suggestion on how to decorate a living room with area rugs, you can always find them out in Google and decorate it with your own instinct. Remember, there is no fixed way on any decoration.
Lighting – Remember also about diversification of the lighting. Beside the overhead lighting very important are those mood making, like: halogens, scones, in-built led lighting hidden under the furniture, in wall corners and shelves.

Area rugs can be used in many ways, both practical and decorative. Although I’m going to give out some tips about how to decorate a living room with area rugs, they are only suggestion; it is all up to you to decide want to use any of it or not or you may come up with one that suit you the most. Depending on the area rug’s size, they can be used to create focal point to highlight something in a living room like table, chair, sofa, TV set, etc., with a smaller sized rug. Whereas a larger sized rug is often used to highlight an area in a house like living room, dining room, etc.
Take a look at your living room. Is it boring, bland? Does it need something new? Does it need an added pick-me-up? Why not try a bright area rug? It will brighten up your living room immediately. Even if the walls are white and the furniture nondescript, a bright area rug will energize the space. You could start by picking your favorite color. Is it blue, pink, red? Will it coordinate or compliment the colors in your living room? If so, find a bright, bold area rug large enough to fill the area you want it to and see what a transformation it brings to your living room.
Size is Important – A sofa can take up a fair bit of room in a lounge, so you should make sure you have the room to accommodate your choice. That fabulous 88 inch recliner might catch your eye in the showroom or even in the photograph online, but once you have paid for it and had it delivered to your home, it might look just a tiny bit bigger. An 88 inch sofa is 7 ft 4 inches wide, and then you need the room either side of it. You don’t get much change out of 12 feet once it has been installed with walking space all round. Four long paces, so make sure you have that available in your living room – many people find that their eyes are larger than their lounges when it comes to sofas.
